The pizza there is better than most here in South Florida; but original Italian is not 100% true. I've have had many authentic pizzas/pies in my travels. The olive oil (cheap version of EVOO), and mozarella does not hold-up. The toppings are fresh, and there's a variety to choose from to make it your own. The decor is cheesy, and needs updated for the prices they charge. The service was lacking in effort, and was basic. Let's just say if they tried to get on at Publix, they'd be turned down, and told Winn Dixie is down the street, if you know what I mean. Will I go back? Eh, I hope not. If others I'm with want to, I'll go, but try something other than the pizza. - Tori with TORIngAmerica

From Chicago and growing up Sicilian I am always weary of getting pizza in other states. No issue here! What a find! Authentic real deal! Just down the street from our hotel and the perfect sized personal pizzas for my wife and 2 boys. Took a picture of my Funghi and prosciutto pizza and one piece was missing. I couldn't wait! For dessert a Nutella Pizza. I would have eaten it for breakfast! Service was polite and the place is cozy but not loud at all. The waitress even cut up my 8 year olds pizza nicely for easier eating without asking. Would definitely come here again if we trek back to DelRay Beach.

Uh Yum! My boyfriend and I went out tonight to try some Italian food. The restaurant we went to had actually closed permanently. Bummed we started walking back to the car and a random homeless guy told us we had to try this restaurant. So we did. Wow... What a find! We had calamari, pizza, and wine. I cannot say enough how amazing everything was. They actually serves the calamari with flash fried arugula which happens to be very tasty. Service was excellent and the owner came over and introduced herself. We told her about the guy who referred us to her and she said they often feed the homeless which really was amazing. Not only was the food spectacular but they were helping the community as well. Will be going back very soon! Keep up the great work!!! XOXOXO

I've lived in Delray for 5 years and have long had a void in my life for truly great pizza options that are close by. Lets be honest with ourselves, Anthony's Coal Fire is not great pizza. Yes, it's good pizza and the wings and ribs definitely make up for what's lacking in their pies, but it will never be great pizza. Don't get me started on Mellow Mushroom. We go there for the beer. Some would argue Nick's New Haven Pizza qualifies as great, although I'm personally not a fan. In terms of great pizza I've had in South Florida, Pizzeria Oceano is on my list for sure and so is Lucali. And after 3 visits to Scuola Vecchia I feel strongly enough to add them to my short list of great, local pizza places. And it's in Delray.. a stones throw from my house! Tip: Don't fuss up your pizza with too many toppings. I made this mistake on my first visit. Instead, opt for the simpler options that lend themselves well to Neapolitan style pizza like the classic Margherita with hot soppressata, Keste' and on my last visit sausage and broccoli rabe. Finally, ask for fresh basil on the side and add just before eating. It really makes a huge difference.

When you want to have a Pizza experience, I highly recommend Scuola Vecchia. The part I like is that the pizza crust is nothing like I have ever tasted before. My buddy said it was authentic and that it has been voted best Pizza in Delray Beach before. Who am I to disagree? I recommend that you go on a Monday or Tuesday night. It isn't as crowded and you can get a good seating and take your time to eat.

The best pizza I've had in years. Classic Neapolitan pizza cooked to perfection. The ingredients were fresh and of the highest quality. The execution was perfect. Don't pass this one by.

Fast friendly service and amazing pizza! Dream oven. The margarita pizza with extra cheese minus tomato sauce is what I ordered and it was delicious. Very accommodating and happy to customize your order.

Once again.... total "party in my mouth" I took a friend here and was SO unbelievably happy to find that the pizza here was JUST as amazing as I had remember it to be. We ordered a Keste, a Prosciutto e Arugola, and a Prosciutto di Parma.... all of which were out of this world. The service was fantastic, and the food really couldn't have been better. This may be my absolute favorite restaurant..... Can't wait to go back.

Fantastic! I had read about this restaurant being in the top 100 places with the best pizza in the US and apparently the ONLY restaurant in the state of Florida to have made it to the list. Their hours had made it difficult for us to go and try a slice as we're not morning people and our sense of lunchtime is at 3pm which is right when they close up to switch around for dinner service at 5pm. Argh!!! Alas, we were finally able to try them on Saturday night during a street festival. The restaurant was full of seated people which was a sure sign that the Top 100 List does not lie. We were seated by a cheerful waitress. The menu was full of amazing options that we had a hard time figuring out what we would try. Since I knew about their pizza, I made it a priority that we must try the pizza for this first visit. There are three options of pizza types- white, red, and build your own. We went to look at the red pizzas and of course, this is a purely Italian restaurant that they're not going to have the typical American pepperoni or meatlovers kind of pizza. So we decided to go with the Capricciosa pizza which is of mozzarella, Italian ham, mushrooms, and artichokes. We were not so sure about the artichokes being served on the pizza, but we love artichokes anyway. So why not?! It arrived after maybe 15 minutes. It looked beautiful! The thin crust was perfectly brick oven toasted, the red sauce was lightly spread throughout. The mozzarella was very Italian, not as salty as the typical American Kraft mozzarella cheese. The ham, mushrooms, and artichokes were a phenomenal combination. My husband, being from New York and having lived next to an Italian family, was entirely impressed by this pizza and said it is the best pizza we've found here in Palm Beach County so far. We will definitely be repeat customers and hope to try the other menu items... hopefully lasagna....

The best pizza in South Florida. You can't get more authentic, with vibrant ingredients and refined technique. Extraordinary.

I heard so much about Scuola Vecchia being nationally ranked and one of the best pizzerias in the tri county area that I didn't know what to expect. Scuola delivered in a big way. The service was first class and the food was fantastic. We started with the Tagliere Misto platter and then we had the Regina Margherita pizza and a calzone. All were incredibly fresh using the best ingredients. I can wait to go back again.

My favorite pizza spot when visiting my daughter at school. Calamari is sooo good. Get the early and get the "specials". Eggplant was awesome. But you can't go wrong with any of the pizza. Everyone better than the other. Parking is a little bit of a hassle but well worth it.

I absolutely love Scuola Vecchia Pizza! Its very casual and great for kids and friends/family. It feels like a home atmosphere. The waitstaff have always been amazing. This is by far my favorite place for pizza.

Great pizza place. Authentic Naples stove. The crust is thin and light. Simple and delightful pizzas. Try the fennel balls. They are amazing!

  • Naria M.

Gourmet pizza. I expected way more than what we recieved. Service was friendly and polite. Very atentive. That is the only reason I gave it the stats I did. I guess coming from Jersey my boyfriend and I are pizza snobs. I heard great things about the pizza. So we had to try it. First of all, paper menus? I felt like I was at a take out pizzeria not a gourmet pizzeria. Then second the decor. How tacky. Ducked tape benches? Hm. And let talk about the pizzas. Prosciutto and Arugula was dry and tasteless. They had their house oil on the table which was described as having a kick to it. Yeah, not true. It was just as bland. We had to add dry hots to try and make it better but still didn't help. Wasn't worth our time. We would have been better off going to Johnnie Browns again.

  • Travis P.

On my top 10 best pizza! The crust is nice and light, the cheese is real, not processed crap, and ingredients fresh. The spicy oil has a great taste with just s little kick and really accents the taste of the pizza. I recommend this place.

Absolutely incredible. We had a few pizzas, but I recommend the Delray - it was awesome. Defiantly get the mozzarella appetizer. Will come back every time I'm in Delray.

Fabulous food. It's a reason to go from Miami to Delray. Lots of authentic Italian specialties. I love the pizzas and the fettuccine bolognase. It's very loud, so its tough to have a conversation.

Having the best pizza in Palm Beach is like getting last place in an ugly contest. Nevertheless, the pizza here is really good and deserves 10 stars in comparison to all the bland, generic food offerings on Atlantic Avenue. Not super cheap, but really well priced for all the prosciutto and high-end ingredients they put on their pies, and about the same price as other gourmet pizza places in the area. Service is also very warm and friendly. Love that it is away from all the buzzy areas of Atlantic Ave.

One of the best meals i have ever had. Hands down. If your looking for some authentic Italian food this is your place!! Rated one of the best 25 pizzas in America, they hold up to that title. Holy god this pizza was good. The dessert was fantastic, i had some kind of dough with Nutella all over it. The pizzas are cooked in a special oven and they cook them in 90 seconds. its amazing. The service was quick, efficient and the overall expereience was perfect. I am going back today to eat there again! its just too good

It was surprising to find that authentic Neapolitan style pizza is right near my parent's house in Delray Beach! This is the kind of pizza that's baked in a true wood oven shipped over from the motherland of Italy. They have certification from the Associazone Pizzaiuoli Napoletani (the so-called "pizza police"). For the two of us we split the Keste ($16) featuring imported fresh Bufala mozzarella, tomato sauce, Prosciutto di Parma, arugula, shaved gran cru, extra virgin olive oil, and basil. In addition also tried one of the white pizzas featuring pistachio pesto and sausage also at $16. I preferred the Keste with it's light red sauce but both were very tasty! If you're looking for authentic pizza and want to try something different than mellow mushroom, walk around the corner and check out the Scuola!

First time customer, walked right in off Atlantic. Service was great, very clean and loved the decor. $30 for two personal pies. The flavors were great, could really taste the freshness. Sadly the dough was soggy and just ruined it. I might try it again and tell them to cook it more but I feel like on $15 pizza I shouldn't have to tell the coollks what to do.

The management of this restaurant is an absolute joke. Went at 8 after waiting an hour and they were out of 3/4 of their menu. Also took about an hour to even get any utensils and it's apparently against the law to get a side of tomato sauce (you are not allowed, even for an extra charge). Owner of this restaurant could not be ruder and she thinks she's some kind of God in the food industry. They even forgot a dish after nearly 2 hours of waiting. The best is they automatically add a 20% tip on top of all of it. Food was solid but not worth hour and a half wait.

Pizza was good, service not so good. Asked for vegetarian pizza and selected toppings. Waiter didn't tell us each topping was close to 4 dollars extra= rip off!!!!

I've been to a lot of great pizza restaurants, including Angelo's and Ray's pizzerias in NY. This place is hands-down the best pizza I've ever had. The pizza here is coal-fired; more importantly, they don't burn the cr@p out of it like most coal-fire pizzerias do. In fact, the pizza stays in the 1000-degree oven for only 80-90 seconds. For someone who does not like charred crust/ingredients, it's a definite plus for me. I took my girlfriend here. They have great happy-hour deals here, so she ordered the regular Margherita pizza for half price. It was delicious. I ordered the Regina Margherita (remember that). real Buffalo mozzarella, grape tomatoes, basil, and olive oil. Absolutely SUPREME! They even put up with me asking for minimal charring, and they did a pretty good job in respecting my wish. Their delicious Espresso packs a wallop. It warmed up my pallet for some of the best homemade Tiramisu I've had in a while. I have nothing but good comments for this place.

    (5)
  • Vittorio M.

The pizza there tries its best to be "original italian", but fails in two major aspects: the quality of the mozzarella (questionable) and the olive oil (tasteless, more like a hot-pressed spanish oil, rather than a true extra-virgin italian olive oil). For the high price I'd have expected a more valiant effort. On the positive side, the dough was not too shabby. The atmosphere is, well, kind of weird, with that big screen with postcards and images of Italy, but I'm italian, so maybe that may look "exotic" here in Florida. Service was basic, but quick.

My wife and I enjoyed dinner here on a whim and were pleasantly surprised with the authenticity of the ingredients, menu, and attention to service. We each had a pizza with egg and plenty of toppings, and we loved the quality of the dough ( I usually don't like the crust but I ate it all!) We also loved the eggplant rollotini app and old school salad! We will definitely be back!

Read about it so we had to try it. Fresh fresh fresh. We had 2 pies and a Calzone. The canolis and the Nutella pizza very tasty. Nice people. Try it you'll like it.

Yay! I found my new favorite pizza place! Walked by and took one look at that oven and knew I came to the right place. Volcano rock oven that can make a pizza in 90 seconds?! It gets better...Amazing 30 sec greet followed by a friendly waitress who pointed out the happy hour menu (without the stank "you are cheap" face). the happy hour is amazing so many great options for 6 dollars. We each got a Margherita pizza and shared the meat ball app..I'm not over exaggerating when i say it was the best thing I have ate in a long time! Fresh ingredients, Amazing service, homemade desserts, and amazeballz pizza with an authentic recipe! Go there ! Only downside is there was no drink happy hour just a food happy hour ..

  • Matt M.

Love this place. Great food and great pizza. Severs are great and friendly. Pizzas are just like the ones you get in Naples Italy. They were out of some of the dishes but that is expected in a busy restaurant. I will recommend this place to anyone that wants to have real Neapolitan pizza. The only complain I have is the host. He must be new in this business because he had no idea what he was doing. Try this place you will love it.

So great to have such a fantastic Neapolitan pizza joint among a sea of New York style pizza places! Scuola Vecchia is as good as they come, and reminds me of a scrumptious Neapolitan pizza spot in Seattle called Tutta Bella. YUM is the best word to describe. Everything, and I mean everything, is top notch here. Service is attentive, the menu is very large and varied, and the food is presented exceptionally well and tastes perfect. I enjoyed the Lasagne di Verdure while my husband enjoyed the pizza special of the night -- it had pistachio pesto sauce, zucchini, eggplant, grape tomatoes, and was LOADED with mozzarella cheese. We also ordered the Old Skool salad which was sizable for $7 and a great starter before our meal. To top off the evening, I enjoyed a double shot of espresso. They serve Lavazza, which I know most people either love or hate. I love Lavazza espresso, but don't care for their black coffee as it's much too weak. When looking for a departure from the overdone NY style pizza all over S. Florida, head to Atlantic and enjoy this slice of heaven on earth!

I finally got to try Scuola Vecchia. And I also learned a lesson. That no matter how highly recommended a place can be, it is never what others say it is. This place was nominated as the best pizzeria Napolotana in the south east of Florida together with Fratelli di Buffala down in Miami. There are quite a bunch of pizzerias in the Delray area, all within walking distance from each other. I imagine the competition must be fierce and therefore they must all strive to be the best. Scuola Vecchia is nestled between several small restaurants and shops in the heart of Delray beach with inside and outside seating. We decided to seat inside in order to,get a closer look at the whole pizza operation. The staff was attentive yet not warm. There was a blasting large screen tv playing live Italian songs which made the place loud and uncomfortable. My wife was disappointed at the very limited wine by the glass list. We ordered the Burrata appetizer which we thought it was good but wished we had gotten warm and fresh bread with it. The pizzas were good, yet lacking the WOW factor. Not what I expected from the recommended reviews. The desserts were home made, but their signature Tiramisu was blend and dry. Would I come back for more? Probably not. The food was good but the place was not warm nor inviting. With so many other pizzerias around the corner , it was obvious that Scuola Vecchia needed some more schooling on creating a more attractive, warm ,friendly , cozy environment in order to stay ahead of its neighboring competitors.

This place is A-OK. But I had trouble placing an order. Could I have the fetuccini bolognese? - We don't have any right now. I recommend the meat lasagna. OK I'll try that. - A few minutes later - We are out of the meat lasagna. But we have vegatable lasagna. OK could you sprinkle some proscuitto on the vegetable lasagna? - No OK I'll try the vegetable lasagna. It was 3 stars.

My favorite pizza place on the Avenue! Great Eggplant Parm app too! The staff is very friendly and always a good time when I go. I love Franceso. The food is always fresh and delicous. Not sure if they are opened for lunch anymore.

We are just back from Bologna and Scuila Vecchia serves better pizza than any we had there. Great pasta too! Best in Delray. This is an owner- managed restaurant, not a chain, and she is always onsite (friendly and welcoming) Terrific spot!

  • Meaghan T.

This place was very good. I went the other night with my boyfriend. I would definitely recommend it for a casual date night or a night out with friends. I will definitely come back and try another one of their pizzas and a pasta dish. We ordered two pizzas - the prosciutto, mushroom, with truffle oil white pizza and the pistachio, pesto, and sausage white pizza. Both were excellent.

If you are looking for an authentic Italian pizza place in south Florida, look no further than Scuola Vecchia. It has a friendly staff, beautiful atmosphere and high quality, Neopolitan-style brick oven pizza. I make it a point to take anyone visiting me down here to Scuola Vecchia...the place is THAT good!

  • GM D.

Service was good... food? Well, let's just say we won't be back. My husband asked for garlic? They brought out slivers.... He asked for Coke? They were sold out. After spending 60. on appetizers and pizza... we'll do Mellow Mushroom or Sazio next time. Just not feeling the lighting, closed in feeling and not paying too much for burnt dough and gravy with a few pieces of cheese...

  • Adam H.

Pizza here is very good, small, but reasonably priced and fresh ingredients. The only negative in my opinion is that the crust is a bit chewy. I've been here twice and I've ordered the pie "well done" as well as the standard way, and it was the same both times. It *tastes* great, but the crust just has a weird texture. My second favorite place for pizza in south florida, bested only by Tucci's in Boca.

Scuola Vecchia means "Old School" in Italian, and that is the way that they make pizza. This is some of the best gourmet, Southern Italian (not Italian American) style pizza that I've ever had. The dough and the house made cheese and the menu that sports more Italian fare like awhile pizza with pistachio and sausage, prosciutto and sliced eggs, and my favorite, the Keste, with buffalo mozzarella prosciutto ad arugula. Hands down the best!! Super fresh ingredients. Killer marinara. Why anyone would eat at Mellow Mushroom or one of the burned pizza places passing themselves off as "coal oven" is beyond me. The service was wonderful, and the small space was nicely decorated and tasteful. In all, it was il miglorie (the best)! Don't come on Tuesdays. They're closed. They don't do lunches either during the week.

It's a small clean white restaurant on Atlantic that looks like they might serve Greek food....it doesn't. They have awesome traditional Italian style pizza with homemade mozzarella, and the homemade tiramisu is amazing!

  • Kelly A.

Stopped in at the recommendation of other Yelpers and was not disappointed. Pizza (prosciutto and arugula) and calzone both authentic, fresh and delicious. Anthony was our waiter -- excellent service and family atmosphere on a Friday night.

  • Ilaria D.

Really good italian style pizza,as certified by real italians! This is the only pizza that deserves this name thus far in south florida. The desserts are good too,the tiramisù is really close to the real one. The only problem is that the place is a little noisy and it can be hard to have a conversation while having dinner. Don't waste your time if you think that a pizza needs 10 different topping and tons of garlic to be good!

Traditional "Naples Pizza" the way it oughta be done!!!...One of my favorite pizza joints in Delray Beach FL.

  • Marie D.

Right across the street from our hotel, saw good reviews, got pizza. $30 for two basically personal pizzas - margherita and prosciutto and mushroom. The margherita had almost no basil on it at all. And if there was prosciutto on the other one, I could neither see it nor taste it. I've had much better pizza from my local pizza shop up North (staffed by true Italians). And I've had better in Naples (Italy, not Florida).

This is probably the last place you would think of to watch football but when we were looking for a less crowded place to watch the Steelers game we saw their Steelers flag and Terrible Towel and were welcomed right in to watch on their TV. So if you're a Steelers fan in the area and feel like watching your team while chomping down a delicious panini, this is the place to be.

My boyfriend and I regularly visit when we're craving pizza. Always fresh and simply delicious. A family run business that clearly cares about the quality of the food they serve. No matter how long it's been, they always remember us and provide excellent service. Try the burrata cheese! It's house made and simply to die for!

  • Daisy P.

This pizza is not just good, its really freaking delicious! We happen to be in Delray Beach and this little hip Italian restaurant hit the spot. I loved the white & blue accent decor. The tiles on the wall reminded me of an Italian kitchen and the marble tables were a nice touch! We started with the meatball appetizer and the sauce was so delicious we asked for extra bread to finish it! We ordered the wood-oven cooked Prosciutto di Parma pizza and it was TDF (to die for) the Mozzarella, the thinly sliced prosciutto, and the crust! Yum Yum! We finished with home-made tiramisu as a good Italian meal should always end with :)

Great pizza! I was told about this place through a guy from Italy and he was right. Place was clean and service was great. The pizza was excellent and some of the best I've had in South Florida even better then some of the stuff they create back home in NY. Pies are not large so if you are with a few people you may want to order a couple of pies. I will definitely be back! Yumm!

This is very good old-school-Italian ("scuola vecchia") thin-crust pizza. I wouldn't call it outstanding, or "one of the best pizzas in the country," or "the best pizza in South Florida," but it is very good. I think the chewiness of the crust might be its most unusual and best feature. The service at lunch was a little cool and indifferent, and there was no "thanks for having lunch with us today." With only 3 tables occupied, displaying some hospitality skills could only help business!

  • Tony T.

Amazing Pizza! Amazing Pizza! Amazing Pizza! As I found out... if your not familiar with authentic italian pizza, just order what they recommend on special. There is really no sense in building you own pizza without first trying some of the ones they have built out already on their menu. FAST SERVICE once the order is in. The oven cooks incredibly fast. Even the menu says 'No Substitutions' on their specialty pizzas because they're made as authentically as possible. Even the oven is from Naples and the dough is made from several selected types of wheat./flour etc, The decor is awesome! Imported Italian marble, blue/white/ tile throughout, indirect blue uplighting in vaulted ceiling. Great pieces of art! Definitely an amazing place. I highly recommend it. Ask for Sharon the owner to give you the history of the place like I did. Impressive!

    (5)
  • Mark H.

You see that oven in the back? Made by craftsmen in Naples. It reaches a temperature of more than 1000 degrees, meaning your pizza is ready in 90 seconds or less. Scuola vecchia uses quality ingredients, many imported from Italy, to fashion an authentic and tasty Neapolitan pizza. An individual pie, a bit soft in the middle, crispy on the outside, with leopard spots of charring on the crust, just like you get in Naples. Ask the owner or your server for a recommendation if you're unsure which pie to order. Try the eggplant parmesan, cooked to perfection in the pizza oven.

Have been wanting to try this place as I heard they had the best pie. Finally got the chance and when I got there wanted everything. But "want" vs try and enjoy we're two different animals. Lasagna bolognese: Sorry sir we are out. Out at 7:15 pm? As I look at 5 other occupied tables you actually had it available and everyone there ordered multiple times that you are out? No we are going to make it in an hour. Humm, ok. Burrata was good. Meatballs- spongy texture and had to use my incisors to cut through. Yuck! Normal salad with fresh mozzarella was ok but really liked the fresh mozzarella. Marguerita pizza crust was great but something did not jell. Was it the sauce or the fresh mozzarella? Not sure. Much prefer Luigi's in Downtown Fort Lauderdale who is also a master pizza maker. No need to return.

Delicious, fresh, authentic Napoli-style pizza in Delray!! Need I say more?

This place is absolutely delicious. Authentic, affordable and simple. Their pizza's that great thin crust with the most simple and fresh ingredients. It's a nice change from the chain pizzas that seem to make pizza so complicated. The margherita pizza is superb and recently went down in price. SCORE! Even the staff are authentic Italian - so much I can't understand them through their lovely accents.

Very excited when I see pizza places with a real Italian pizza oven. Reviews seemed good. Got seated right away on a Monday but a holiday. Service a little questionable had to ask for a menu. Staff seemed frustrated all running around. Pizza was good. Good price. Meatballs good big portion for appetizer 3 big meatballs . Best pizza choice for Delray

Pizza that brings my heart back to Italy! The owner and the staff leave to Italy once a year for a month to reconnect with their roots. The food is authentic and delicious!

Absolutely delicious pizza. Chewy, yet crispy, crust, fresh toppings and cheese that's made in house. The chili oil is a great complement to leftover crust. Cannot wait to go back again this week!

While thin-crust Chicago pizza is my favorite style, the Neapolitan style pizza at Scuola Vecchia is outstanding. The menu offers extensive combinations of Italian ingredients in different individual 11" pizzas. All of them are fired in a special oven you can see from the dining room. There were four of us and we each ordered different pizzas, trying each others. They were all excellent, with very fresh ingredients and wonderful texture. We will be back for more. As a wine enthusiast, I was pleased to see a nice selection of Italian wines all reasonably priced and obviously consciously matched to the menu. Service was very attentive but not obtrusive and the owner made a point of visiting all of the tables which is always a nice touch. They hit all of the marks for a great pizza place: fresh and imaginative menu, casual atmosphere, professional service and appropriate pricing.

The BEST pizza in West Palm Beach by far!!! Great salads also. Loved the white pizza with pistachio pesto. Yummy !

Have visited several times over the last year. The truffle appetizer "pizza" is one of the most memorable items I have ever ordered in a restaurant. If you are within 10 miles of Delray Beach, go. The service is generally good. There is one server, she may be an owner? is not quite as personable. The pasta was very good as well. Some of the best Italian I have had from Italy to NYC to FL, especially at this price point. Tiny place with an Ice cream parlor-ish decor.

I had heard great things about the pizza here, but I found it just OK. They serve Neopolitan-style pizza, which means thin crust and a light amount of toppings. They weren't bad but didn't really impress me.

I had the Regina Margherita pizza while my wife had the Keste, both delicious and made up to this restaurant reputation. You will not be disappointed if you want to spend money on a pizza. We'll be back!

This is a solid four star place. We sat outside on Saturday night facing the Colony Hotel. They had live music and it was nice to watch and listen from across the street. We started with the arugula salad $6 light dressing and chopped tomatoes with two pieces of bread. It was ok had to mess that up . Ordered two different pizzas the margarita $12 and the Keste the Keste $16 has arugula and prosciutto put on top after it comes out of the oven. Steven our waiter was spot on. I love their pizza, it is authentic pizza but it is pricy.

MUST GO! For realzies? The pizza was amaze. All around nice flavors. Thin pizza with arugula, buffalo mozzarella, olive oil and fired in the forno. We also had the "peperoni alle mandorle" to start which was bell peppers, raisins, almonds, capers, fried zucchini, mint, asparagus wrapped in prosciutto. TO DIE. Finished off the meal with tiramisu and an almond flourless cake. The carafe of malbec was fantastic as well! Understated interior and Italian speaking staff created a genuine atmosphere, unlike most of the highly bankrolled and often failing eateries on Atlantic Avenue. Ciao!

This is really good real pizza. Crispy flavorful crust, fresh ingredients some of which are made in the restaurant, and classic combinations. They feature fresh made Burrata which was very good and a true 1000° pizza oven. We had the Roberto, Salami and Margarita pizzas and each were very good. The staff was nice and authentic as well. This is simply not something you expect to find in a town in Florida, don't miss it!

I love pizza and I have tried all different places in south Florida. This place is by far the best! Fresh ingredients and very flavorful. The crust is not to heavy and even after sharing I don't fill over stuffed. The homemade tiramisu that the owner makes is so light and fluffy. The best tasting tiramisu that I have ever eaten. The staff is so friendly and knowledgeable on all the menu items so of you can't decide what to get they will be sure to assist. The owner Sharon is so sweet and nice. She is always there to greet you and to make sure everything meets the customers expectation. I highly recommend trying this place if you want an amazing meal. Try to remember just because someone else writes a bad review doesn't mean your experience will be bad! That person probably complains if the wind doesn't blow right! Running a business is hard people and if you think you can do a better job then open your own place. Which you probably won't because you will complain that it's to hard! Try this restaurant and decide for yourself!

Authentic pizza Napolitana. Thin crust, non-greasy, with chunks of melted mozzarella di bufala. Fresh, wholesome ingredients used in every dish. Even the mushrooms taste like they're imported right from Italy, with their pungent savory flavor. The server was right from Italy too and it was evident she took pride in the food, giving explanations and making appropriate recommendations. The only drawback is that the tables are too close to each other, so say a little prayer your neighbors are not freaks. Still, well worth a visit if you like authentic Italian pizza (which is very different than its American cousin).

I enjoyed the pizza, but overpriced for the size. We sat outside, and a worker kept coming out to smoke. I know...smoking is allowed outside, but couldn't they go out back?

I was so looking forward to a great pizza and a salad for lunch but was disappointed in so many ways. $10.00 Mare salad...small hand full of arugula and 4 baby shrimp, the shrimp tasted like pure lemon juice. $12.00 Margherita with eggplant....the outside edge was very flat, not bubbly (like the pictures on their TV screens), tiny and thin pieces of eggplant, very little sauce and cheese. The bottom was under cooked. With tax and tip = $27.00 and left hungry.

I really love the pizza here, fresh ingredients and artfully made pizza deliver on taste. The salads are just wonderful as well but this place is like getting pizza in Italy and New York. My favorite pizza spot Southern Florida.

Let's weigh in on the pros and cons in this review, shall we? Pros: * I liked the light, chewy & crispy crust. * Toppings are fresh and delicious. You can taste the flavor of each individual ingredient. * They don't cook the prosciutto in the oven, they lay it on top afterwards...BRAVO! * The pizzas come out minutes after you order them, like the scene from "Defending Your Life" when he orders the omelet. * The place is very handsome and clean, indeed. Cons: * Never has delicious cheesy bread demanded such an outrageous price tag. And I thought alcohol was a steep markup...OUCH! * For some reason, I don't see this pizza as a meal. It feels like more of a snack. * Though it is authentic, I've enjoyed other gourmet pizzas a lot more, albeit less authentic ones. In this case, authentic doesn't mean the absolute best; but the pizza is darned good. Random Observation: * Catch me if I'm being an ignorant fool, but this pizza reminds me of Indian naan bread...if you threw a aioli topping on there and served it with curry, I may not know the difference.

Tried 3 different kinds of pizza. Sausage and the prosciutto was the best. You could taste the fresh Ingredients. Felt like I was back in Italy. Can't beat this if you are looking for a quick dinner so you can checkout the rest of the area.

Great authentic Italian style pizza and wonderful in house made mozzarella cheese. Everything tasted fresh and prepared well. My only idea for improvement would be to add more veggies into their meals. Go for the happy hour if you have a budget!

Been wanting to try this place for a while and we were not disappointed, the pizza is delicious. I had the mushroom and hubby had the fried pizza with smoked mozzarella which was amazing! For a starter we had the fresh mozzarella which was also very yummy. The only thing is that this place is very tiny and is a bit of a squeeze if its busy , but we'll be back to try more yummy stuff on the menu.

Awesome pizza! This place was just incredible. Small, but nicely decorated, and the pizza was out of this world. Not your typical American style pizza, but as close to a true Neapolitan pie as I've had. Delicious. Really. Go here. Do it now.

Was here on Wednesday and tried the Keste pizza with big, salty slices of prosciutto, peppery arugula, incredibly fresh and creamy bufala mozzarella and gran cru. Crust was chewy with the perfect amount of char. Had a slice of flourless chocolate cake for dessert too. The meal was pure perfection!

Would not put marinara sauce on my pie because it was not exactly that way on the menu! I left. I expect to treated better than this in any restaurant. Snooty staff and poor management do not a pleasant place.

Seriously 4 1/2 stars for this place! What wonderful salads and real Roman-like pizza YUM! Really good wine list to go along with the wonderful pizza. I don't think I could eat one of these pies by myself but the guys at the table next to us had no problem. Don't miss this gem on the Eastern end of Atlantic Avenue.

We visited last night for the first time and I can assure you it won't be the last. The atmosphere and staff were charming. Everyone was friendly and attentive even taking the time to chat. It had a definite European feel to it .We ordered the Regina Margarita pizza . It was truly delicious . The sauce, fresh buffalo mozzarella and the crust we found to be exceptional . It exceeded our expectations and upon leaving we vowed that we had found "our pizzeria " BTW , the nutella pizza is the perfect ending!

I wanted to try Scuola Vecchia because of the great reviews I have read, primarily on Trip Advisor. I thought the pizza was very good, however, one might say, "where's the pizza?" Tiny pies, barely any cheese, imported from Italy or not. It was pretty to look at, but FEED ME, I'm hungry! Pies were listed at $16 on the website, but are now $13. At 7:30 on a beautiful Thursday night, 1/12, they were empty inside except for Sharon the owner, and 4 or 5 employees. Two tables outside were occupied. Authentic Neopolitan or not, I won't go back again. Too little pizza for too much money and absolutely the bare minimum of toppings available to the point that the restaurant tells you what comes on it, you can't choose. I'm going back to my big, cheesy New York style pizza. It's still Italian, but I can buy one, and eat it for three days. Best wishes Sharon and Shawn. You have a tough journey ahead of you if this business is to grow legs, especially on E. Atlantic.

The pizza is an A+. Fresh ingredients, great taste. The service was pretty good too, if not rushed. The place is okay for a quick pizza. A place to sit and relax, no. The atmosphere is a D-. The restaurant was bright (as in doctors office) which isn't bad but it was so loud! We could not hear the server OR each other. We were all screaming just to have a conversation. I noticed the walls were covered in tile. Who does that? Very poor design. I felt like I was at Chucky Cheese. Next time - take out, for sure.

    (3)
  • El R.

Very good pizza. Very poor service. To justify these high prices a restaurant NEEDS to offer both. Owner needs to worry more about running her business instead of trying to look the part. This place needs a real manager asap.

This is a great pizza place. The ingredients are fresh and the pies are delicious. The atmosphere is relaxed but modern. It's white and blue in here.. penn state colors.. need I say more? Seriously though, the place is very clean and the lighting is perfect. I read in other reviews that the lighting is bright.. this is not the case at all. The lighting is fine. Did I mention the food is fresh? You can taste the freshness in every bite. Fresh tomatoes, mozzarella, basil, and other Italian ingredients I can't spell. The people are professional and top notch. Refills came fast and the pizza was served faster. Talked to the owner when i was there.. he's all around nice guy. Go here if you want some damn good authentic Italian pizza!

We went here for the first time about a month ago. I just happened to come across a listing they had in one of the coupon fliers. I researched them online and decided that it definitely sounds like something we should try. You see, my wife and I went to Italy last summer and have been dying ever since to find a pizza place that tasted even close to the pizza we tasted in Italy. Well, we found it. The pizza is light and incredibly flavorful. We have gone back 3 times since (every weekend), and I swear, it tastes better each time. Supposedly, the dough is lower in carbs than a regular pizza; they make the cheese by hand every morning; and the sauce is incredible. We tried their pasta once (not on the menu) and had lasagna last night. They are both absolutely delicious. And the noodles in both are homemade. Prices are very reasonable. This place is very authentic. Give it a try and you will not be disappointed.

Went back again and their menu has gone DOWN in price. The aforementioned outstanding Margherita went from 11 bucks to 9.50. That makes it even more delish.Y

I have heard some pretty good things about Scuola Veccia, which is one of the newest entries on an street that is SATURATED with pizza options such as Sazio, Mellow Mushroom, Vic & Angelo's, etc. This establishment separates itself from the others by offering more of a true Neopolitan-style pizza. The atmosphere of this restaurant is a tad bland compared to others around downtown Delray, but not offensive in any way. For benchmarking purposes, I ordered the margherita pizza with Italian buffalo mozzarella, and tiramisu for dessert. This was surely one of the better Neapolitan-style pizzas I have had in South Florida. The cheese was super fresh (more places should be using buffalo Mozzarella) and applied quite liberally, but did not drench the pie. The basil and cherry tomatoes were everything that they needed to be, ditto the sauce which was applied very sparingly. The flavor of the crust was perfect but it was just a TAD doughy on the inside compared to it's perfectly charred exterior, but not enough to be unappealing. Oven temperature may be a slight issue. Still, it was nowhere near as bad as an Anthony's Coal Fired abomination in that regard. The tiramisu, well, there isn't much to say; it was perfectly executed and a real winner. The service was very casual and relaxed, although we were some of the only ones in the restaurant at the time. If you appreciate a Neapolitan-style pie and happen to be on the Avenue, this is a great place to go.

Toscana salad was amazing. Pizza was a little bland but it's supposed to be to showcase the freshness of the ingredients because they're super Italian here. Very authentic and really high quality ingredients. I will return :)

I went to Scuola Vecchia when it first opened. My husband and I were looking for a place for lunch and Scuola Vecchia was giving out free slices to people on the street. That was it. We split the most delicious margarita pizza. The cheese and sauce were unbelievably fresh and the service was good, but slow - more like European time. We sat outside because I, of course, had my dog with me. The hostess brought him a bowl of water even though I didn't ask. Very sweet. Looking forward to trying everything on the menu.

We have been to the best pizza places in NYC and New Haven, and Scuola Vecchia is in that elite class. Excellent! The service was attentive and friendly. The owner came over to our table and introduced ourself. We didn't try the other food, but they have pastas and more. Check it out... you won't be disappointed.

This wonderful ristorante just opened up, and man was it good. We were in town from Boston for a wedding at the Sundy house and staying at the Colony hotel, which is adorable by the way. Right across the way is Scuola Vecchia. Their staff was very knowledgable about the menu. All the ingredients are flown in from Italy. I got a caprese and the tomatoes were some of the most flavorful I've had in YEARS. They make the mozzarella on site in the mornings. It was WONDERFUL! But what was OUT OF THIS WORLD was the nutella pizza for dessert! SOOOOO good. My husband said the look on my face while eating it was that of total bliss, with a smile so big he wanted to take a picture. If you are within 50 miles of this place, you should try it! I might be willing to fly all the way from Boston just to have it again!

Food is amazing, the owners are beautiful people... The mother looks like an angel and the son is sexy, but I heard his wife is crazy and extremely possessive, so don't hit on him or she will chase you out with a knife

This is how pizza is meant to taste. Inspired by true flavors of Italy, Scuola Vecchia is a rare find in otherwise sad "gourmet" pizza market.

    (5)
  • Andrew B.

This is both fantastic true pizza napolitana as well as the best meal on Delray's Atlantic avenue. There are very few places in the U.S. that can make the real-deal pizza according to the most stringent standards and tradition and this is one of them. When you factor in how over-priced and mediocre the other restaurants are on this busy strip of colorful restaurants, you realize what a amazing value Scuola Vecchia is. Bravi tutti!

    (5)
  • Kathy T.

The food was good, the pizza a little burnt. The place is really loud so if your want to hear other people at the table then forget that. Nice wait staff. I think i would go back but only if mellow mushroom was too packed.

  • matthew M.

Excellent pizza. A little more expensive but you can taste it in the ingredients. Excellent fresh mozarella. It almost makes you feel like you are in a little mediteranian cafe with marble tables and lots of tiles. Great view of the historic hotel across the street. Good coffee and deserts also. It is a little bright and a little noisy.

  • Damara C.

If you're looking for a true Italy Pizzeria, this is it. This place was so authentic and delicious with it's style of personal pizza, fresh ingredients, bright Euro decor, smaller portions, tiny glass coke bottles, efficient but not overly friendly service and typical Euro attitude of no modifications or substitutions on orders. Most of what I mentioned would have turned me off as an American, but instead it brought back fond nostalgia of my days in Italy eating pizza. The fresh buffalo mozzarella and dough are incomparable to U.S. Pizza, even Anthony's. I had the Classic, and it had fresh cherry tomatoes and basil. They are quite expensive for what it is, but if you value fresh ingredients it's worth it for a splurge. I also ordered the pear salad. Fresh, good and tiny. This place is a must try for it's uniqueness, freshness, and European feeling, but it's not your everyday pizzeria. As a former New Yorker, the only place on the Ave to eat pizza as a regular is Sazio.

  • kyle g.

In a vast sea of South Florida pizza hell and mediocrity this pizza stands out as the best in Boca/Delray. I know that isn't saying much (I am a native New Yorker) but this is good pizza. The freshness and quality of the ingredients are evident in the first bite. I ordered the Regina margherita and was impressed by the fresh cherry tomatoes sprinkled on the pie. The pizza is $16 a pie and the pie is barely enough to feed one person, but it is well worth it. The staff is friendly and the place is spotless - although a bit sterile and thankfully east of the touristy section of Atlantic Avenue.

what a treat tonight....from the minute we walked in Scuola we felt at home....the restaurant is the most chic pizzeria this side of Milan....so pretty...the food was fresh and wonderful and the owner and her staff were friendly and genuinely nice.......Scuola is the total package....fabulous food, wonderful people and as I said before an interior designers dream surroundings...you must eat here soon!!!!!
